Punjabi Cultural Association was originated in 1991 in Brisbane. The purpose of Association was to promote Punjabi Culture, World famous Punjabi Bhangra Dance, organise Punjabi and Bollywood Concerts, to help Bollywood Film production in Queensland and Australia, to organise Punjabi Poetry and Writer’s contests, Punjabi Radio program. PCA also helps the new immigrants and students from India that how to integrate into Australian culture and expectations, so that they can enjoy peaceful and progressive environment this Young Multicultural Nation offers. Indian community is peaceful and successful in Australia.

Today we are about more than1000 members of Punjabi Cultural Association of Queensland and more than 18000 Punjabi students in the state supporters of association. They always feel at home, when they learn there is Punjabi Cultural Association to provide them the basic help of any kind they need.

In Queensland our forefathers started to migrate in 1880 to help the sugarcane farmers and to clear the trees for farming land. With hard work and enterprise, now it is not uncommon to find Australian Sikhs in most walks of life and professions.Even in World War First on the behalf of colonial Indian army, 14th Sikh Battalion and Aussies fell together in GallipoliPeninsula.

Next year Punjabi Cultural Association is hosting the 29th National Sikh Games Multicultural Festival. It will be celebrated in Brisbane on Easter break of 2016, March 25, 26, 27. Punjabi Cultural Association of Queensland also hosted Australian Sikh Games in 1992, 1998, 2004 and 2010 in Brisbane. The Annual Carnival – now in its 29thyear – is celebrated in different cities of Australia on rotation basis and is the major focal point for all the Sikhs to get together and celebrate their cultural and social heritage to share with other cultures. In addition to sporting events such as Kabbadi, Soccer, Netball, Golf and Volleyball; national and international Punjabi artists will also perform in Brisbane.

The size and scale of the festival is growing by the year; some 45,000 people are expected to attend in 2016 over three days. The PCA committee and on the whole community are hard at work in presenting the best ever event and have arranged quality venues like Morton Bay Sports Club at Tingalpa. The host community also provides free lunch to our inter-state and international visitors.

The Sikh Games Annual Multicultural Festival is not only our cultural celebration, but also a display of community relations in itself. It brings other cultures together to share different taste of foods, different cultural dresses, and various types of dances on one stage to enjoy, learn and get to know with other communities for three days. This Festival achieve various culturally diverse experiences;

1. Financial help will support to celebrate cultural diversity from one stage. The best organised celebration will bring not only lots of financial benefits to Queensland, but it will promote the regional tourism too. For example, the inauguration ceremony will involve and start with Australian flag in the front, then First Australians Aboriginal dance, Scottish group, Islander group, Chinese dragon dance, East European group, Brazilian dance, followed by lots Multicultural Sub-continent dances of Bollywood and participating teams arrived from all states of Australia. All invited distinguished guests will witness the occasion.

During this event thousands of motel rooms will be booked, taxis will be hired, security staff will be hired, food outlets will get busy, function halls will be hired, lots of trophies to present, other necessary amenities be used and lots of dollars will be spent in Queensland’s economy. Thousands of visitors and participants will take fair bit of Queensland in their hearts. People from other states intent to come not only for Festival, but our past experience shows they enjoy the visit to SunshineCoast and Gold Coast too. This Nation offered us a lot, so we all are proud tax payers in this state

2. Sikh Games Annual Multicultural Festival always promotes harmony andcohesion in culturally diverse Queensland. That’s why we send open invitation to all Australians to enjoy and learn about each other. And too attract other cultures, we even offer free entry and free food to enjoy. Punjabi Cultural Association always believes in harmony and understanding. PCAQ always played positive role to keep the harmony. This Festival will help to create a better understanding and environment among all diverse thoughts. The whole World is mixing up, these sorts of Festivals are instrumental to create continuous cohesion and harmony.

3. Sikh Games Annual Multicultural Festival will provide opportunity to all Queenslanders to participate in inauguration ceremony, in organising the various facilities for games, multicultural dances and dresses, Multicultural Dinner Dance hosted by PCAQ on closing night, first and second night concerts to enjoy bollywoodflavour. During the three day Festival free entrée and free exotic vegetarian Indianfood will welcome every Queenslander to share and enjoy the Festival.

4. The wider community involvement will strengthen social web of Queenslanders from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds. Sikh Games Annual Multicultural Festival is one of themajor events to raise awareness of Australia’s modern cultural diversity.

The Sikh Games Annual Multicultural Festival is also a fine example of community spirit as the entire event is organised by the volunteers and is financed by donations and charitable fund-raising. Each Punjabi family in Brisbane will donate some funds; funds will also be raised by selling event souvenirs like T-Shirts.
